Extension of the Common Information Model with Virtual Meter
Abstract
This paper presents an extension of the CIM (Common Information Model) with a definition for Virtual Meter. Virtual Meter is a logical group of Meters that can be used for preprocessing the data for the performance purposes. This extension has been implemented by defining an additional set of classes for Virtual Meters. The extended CIM was tested on real meter reading data from power distribution utility. Performance metrics of the model, taken into account at the time of the evaluation were: the size of the CIM/XML (eXtensible Markup Language) document containing exported data about the Virtual Meter, and the speed of processing the Meter Readings data in advanced Meter Data Management (MDM) applications. According to the test results, incorporating the Virtual Meter may significantly boost the performance of CIM based solutions without jeopardizing CIM compatibility.Downloads
