Microwave Extinction Behavior of Dry Snow
Abstract
A model of the microwave extinction properties of dry snow is presented. It is based on strong fluctuation theory. Dry snow is assumed to be a random isotropic medium, characterized by an exponential spatial autocorrelation function. The shape of the scatterers is modelled as an oblate spheroid. Theoretical results are compared against experimental data of extinction coefficient in the 18 to 90 GHz range. In general a good agreement with the experimental data is obtained.Published
