Software Methods of Increasing of GSM Network Capacity
Abstract
Software methods for increasing of GSM network capacity are reviewed. Basic radio network planning criteria are presented. Dependency of GSM QoS parameters upon frequency reuse scheme and signal penetration is investigated. Power Control and Discontinuous Transmission algorithms are analyzed and results of theoretical calculations of network segment capacity are presented. Calculation results indicate how much use of these algorithms can increase C/I ratio and network capacity. Influence of usage of frequency reuse schemes and Synthesized Frequency Hopping technology upon network capacity is analyzed as well. Using Power Control and Discontinuous Transmission algorithms system capacity could be increased up to two times from 28 Erl/km2 up to 60 Erl/km2. Using Synthesized Frequency Hopping technology system capacity could be additionally increased up to1,8 times up to 105Erl/km2. Presented results of GSM network measuring show that irrespectively of quickly growing number of users and system load, the usage of Software methods for increasing of network capacity ensure high GSM QoS in the Omnitel network.
