A new energy storage technology of Vanadium redox battery has been focused in the application of PV power system. This paper presents a discussion on sizing relation between PV modules and Vanadium redox battery capacity in a stand-alone PV system compared to the system with traditional Lead-acid battery storage. The method adopted is based on the Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) concepts. And in this study the hourly average solar radiation, ambient temperature of central region of China are used to estimate performance of the proposed system and hence for the designing. Meanwhile economy is also an important index in PV system design. A detailed economic analysis has been done by using the concept of Unit Cost of Energy (UCE). A mathematical simulation is carried out and the results indicate that the system adopted Vanadium redox battery storage has better Power Supply Probability and economy, which are prior to that of Lead-acid battery.
