Empiric Characteristics of Fading Mobile Communications Channels
Abstract
Cell ID based mobile positioning systems are generally recognised to be the most cost effective means of mobile location. Howeverthey provide poor accuracy. We have proposed an algorithm that allows to significantly (2-3 times) improve accuracy of Cell ID basedlocation systems by utilising signal fluctuations caused by fading. To maximise improvement in accuracy provided by the proposedmethod, it is important that accurate fading characteristics are used. Article describes method and results of empiric fading channelproperties measurements performed in Riga, Latvia in early 2004 and it’s effects on proposed positioning algorithm.
