The human body is considered as the information source and dual-element pyroelectric infrared (PIR) detectors as the sensor system. A dual-element sensor allows the analysis of the motion of objects in one-dimension, therefore it is proposed to place two sensors perpendicularly. Such a method provides the capability of distinguishing eight different commands. An experimental set-up has been developed in order to evaluate the performance of proposed approach. The signals at the sensors output are collected with a DAQ module and acquired data are entered into computer. The error rate of the system and its dependence on sensor-to-object distance are studied. The proposed remote control approach could be used to developed devices for smart houses.
